Diving near Qawra and St Pauls and its reefs

St. Paul's Bay is situated on the North East coast of Malta. The fishing village of St. Paul’s Bay and its two touristic suburbs of Bugibba and Qawra make up this picturesque bay. The large number of hotels, guesthouses, bars and restaurants found around Bugibba and Qawra make this location the heart of the tourist industry in Malta.

Just out of the bay, one can find some of the best dive sites, and due to the fact that most of these are Boat dives, these sites are never crowded and always a trill to explore.

On the left side of St. Paul's Bay, there is a tiny rocky Island. This is the Island of St. Paul. It was around AD 60 when the Apostle PAUL was being taken to Rome and according to the Bible the ship he was on, was caught in a storm and pushed towards Malta. The Ship hit this rocky island and sank but no lives were lost. St. Paul and all the others miraculously managed to get to shore, where they were welcomed by the Maltese. St. Paul brought Christianity to our shores, and the village became St. Paul’s Bay and the tiny rocky island was also named for him.

On the right side and at the tip of the bay is Qawra point. It is from here that one of the most beautiful reefs of these islands starts.

Both Reefs at St. Paul's Island and Qawra host a large variety walls, drop-offs, caves, arches, plateaus and wrecks. Also, these two areas have recorded unusual encounters with marine life that is very rarely seen around Malta.
