The 50 meter long MV Karwela was sunk in August 2006 to even further increase diving tourism in Gozo. She is easily reached from shore starting your dive across flat rocks. As you can guess from such a recent wreck, marine life and coral have not yet begun to form, but they will in the following years, leaving an excellent wreck. During the scuttle buoyancy tanks have been used to make sure the wreck lands upright.

She is located just of the coast from Xatt L-Ahmar and started in 1957 as the MS Frisia II, renamed to the Nordpaloma in 1977 before she came to Malta in 1986 to serve as a passenger ferry with a maximum of 800 persons and no cars.
